Fairway Grand Opening
November 16th, 2011: Douglaston Queens. On my way from Manhattan to the LIE I scanned my printout from MapQuest, while my GPS proposed a different route. Off at exit 32, I felt lost, so I pulled into a little strip mall and asked a young man in the parking lot where the Douglaston Plaza was, and he replied, "Oh, do you mean where the new Fairway is opening up?!?" A few blocks further, I turned left, and used to the classic flagship store in my neighborhood in the city, I was awestruck! The parking lot was HUGE..the police were directing the hundreds of cars in and out, the TV vans were there, the Mayor spoke as they cut the ribbon and the crowds were lined up to glide with their carts onto the Mothership of Food stores! This sure wasn't Kansas!! I have never seen such a spectacular answer to a foodie's dreams! I have been a devotee of Fairway since I moved to NY from Chicago in 1982....It has always been the first and last word on what to do for dinner, a party, a food fest! I could barely push my cart! And I wanted to fill ten more! Employees and customers were out-grinning each other! Awesome! Amazing! There is just no word to describe it! The 6:30 news did a story on the big event and told of how Fairway had provided 450 jobs with the opening of this store, and about the same on the recently opened store on the east side of NYC! Fairway is just the very best at what they do! SO proud to be associated with such a great organization, and thank you Fairway for making WFUV's Holiday Cheer concert possible!
